China name: 宋PLUS · Export: Seal U DM-i, Sealion 6 DM-i, Seal U EV
BYD's compact SUV in the Song range, with plug-in hybrid (DM-i) and battery-electric (EV) versions. Export markets know the EV as the Seal U and the plug-in as the Seal U DM-i or Sealion 6 DM-i.

Petrol version launched 16 September 2020; the DM-i plug-in hybrid went on sale in March 2021 and the EV (71.7 kWh Blade battery) in April 2021. BYD introduced the export Seal U in 2023, based on the Song Plus EV Champion Edition.
DM 5.0 update 2024–present
Song Plus relaunched with the DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid system in July 2024. The Sealion 06 is described as its de facto successor in some markets.
Powertrain, battery & charging
Launched with a 1.5 L turbo petrol engine. DM-i: 1.5 L plug-in hybrid with an 8.3 to 26.6 kWh LFP Blade battery depending on version. EV: 71.7 to 87.04 kWh LFP Blade battery.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
Petrol, DM-i and EV versions of the Song Plus have different drivetrains and front-end styling, and the 2024 DM 5.0 update changed the hybrid system, so the version matters. The export Seal U is the Song Plus, not related to the Seal sedan. The Song L is a different, larger model. Charging inlets differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
