BYD Sealion 05
China name: 海狮05
BYD's compact SUV in the Sealion family, sold as a DM-i plug-in hybrid (from September 2024) and an EV (from March 2025).
Generations & years
First generation 2024–2026
The Sealion 05 DM-i launched on 23 September 2024 with DM 5.0 hybrid technology and was updated in February 2025. The Sealion 05 EV launched on 25 March 2025 on e-Platform 3.0 Evo.
Second generation 2026–present
A new Sealion 05 with EV and DM-i versions launched in China on 20 April 2026. It is a bigger car, about 4,620 mm long on a 2,770 mm wheelbase. The EV is expected to use BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging.
Powertrain, battery & charging
First-generation EV: rear-wheel drive with a 140 kW or 160 kW motor and a 50.05 kWh (430 km CLTC) or 60.9 kWh (520 km CLTC) LFP Blade battery, DC charging 30–80% in about 18 minutes. Second-generation DM-i: a 1.5 L engine (74 kW) with a 120 kW electric motor and a 26.6 kWh or 34.275 kWh LFP battery, giving 220 to 305 km of CLTC electric range.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
The first-generation Sealion 05 (2024 to early 2026) and the larger second-generation car (from April 2026) are different cars, and the DM-i and EV versions of each have completely different drivetrains, so the build date and version matter. It is a different, smaller car than the Sealion 06 and Sealion 07. Charging inlets differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market.
