BYD Han
China name: 汉 · Export: Han
BYD's flagship full-size sedan, launched in July 2020 and sold as a battery-electric Han EV and as DM-i and DM-p plug-in hybrids.
Generations & years
First generation 2020–2022
Han EV with the LFP Blade battery from 2020, alongside the original Han DM plug-in hybrid.
Updated range 2022–present
Updated Han EV, Han DM-i and Han DM-p released in April 2022. The 2025 model year (launched September 2024) moved the DM-i to the DM 5.0 system, the EV to an 800 V architecture, and added a LiDAR option.
Powertrain, battery & charging
EV: LFP Blade battery, with capacities from about 64.8 to 85.4 kWh across versions, front- or all-wheel drive. DM-i: 1.5 L plug-in-specific petrol engine with BYD's EHS electric hybrid system, front-wheel drive. DM-p: dual-motor all-wheel-drive hybrid.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
The Han and the newer Han L (launched 2025, on different platforms) are separate models, so do not assume parts fit both. Early Han EV and Han DM cars (2020–2022) differ from the 2022-onward DM-i, DM-p and EV versions, and the 2025 EV changed electrical architecture. Charging inlets differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
