Chery's compact SUV and the first model of the Omoda range, launched in 2022 as the Omoda 5 and renamed the Tiggo 5x High Energy in China from late 2024. Sold overseas as the Omoda C5, Chery C5 or O5 and Fownix FX; the electric version is the Omoda E5.
Generations & years
First generation 2022–present
Production started in February 2022 and sales in China began in mid-2022. Overseas launches included Russia and Kazakhstan in October 2022, Australia in March 2023 and South Africa in April 2023. The electric Omoda E5 was shown at Auto Shanghai in April 2023 and went on sale in Indonesia in February 2024. A petrol and electric facelift followed in 2025, when Australia renamed the cars Chery C5 and E5.
Powertrain, battery & charging
Petrol: a 1.5 turbo engine (156 PS, 115 kW) with a CVT, or a 1.6 turbo (197 PS, 145 kW, 290 N·m) with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Electric (Omoda E5 or C5 EV): a 150 kW motor and a 61 kWh battery, which Australia reduced to 58.9 kWh for the September 2025 model-year E5.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
This is a different car from the original Tiggo 5x (2017). The same car is sold as Omoda 5, Omoda C5, Chery C5, Chery O5, Chery FX, Jeland C5 (Russia) and Fownix FX (Iran). Engines, gearboxes and battery sizes differ by market and year, the electric version has a different front end, and the 2025 facelift changed details. Charging inlets on the electric version differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
