Haval Big Dog
China name: 哈弗大狗 · Export: Haval Dargo, Haval Dargo X, Haval H7 (2nd gen Big Dog)
Haval's compact SUV on the L.E.M.O.N. platform, unveiled in 2020 and sold overseas as the Haval Dargo (also Dargo X). A larger second-generation Big Dog, sold overseas as the Haval H7, joined it in 2023.
Generations & years
First generation 2020–present
Unveiled at the 2020 Chengdu show, with the overseas name Dargo announced at the Jeddah Motor Show in December 2021. A 2024-model-year facelift launched in China on 25 July 2023, and a Big Dog Plus has been sold in China since 2025.
Second generation 2023–present
A larger, more expensive second-generation Big Dog, sold in export markets such as Australia and South Africa as the Haval H7, joined the original in 2023.
Powertrain, battery & charging
2024 China facelift: 1.5 turbo (184 hp, 275 N·m) with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, or a 2.0 turbo (238 hp, 385 N·m) with a 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The export Dargo launched with 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines (169 to 211 hp), a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive. A plug-in hybrid (Plus PHEV) is also listed.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
The first-generation Big Dog (Dargo, Dargo X) and the larger second-generation Big Dog (sold as the Haval H7 overseas) are different cars, so the H7 name does not identify one car on its own. The Big Dog Plus and plug-in versions differ again, and the 2024 facelift changed engines and gearboxes. The older Haval H7 (2015 to 2021) is a different car. Send the VIN.
