Yangwang U8

China name: 仰望U8

Yangwang's first model, a full-size luxury extended-range SUV on BYD's e4 four-motor platform, presented in January 2023 and on sale in China from April 2023.

Generations & years

  • First generation 2023–present

First presented on 5 January 2023 and launched in China on 18 April 2023. The U8 Premium Edition was the most expensive Chinese mass-produced electric car at the time. A lengthened U8L was introduced at Auto Shanghai in April 2025.

Powertrain, battery & charging

e4 platform with four traction motors of 220 kW each (880 kW, about 1,180 hp in total), a 49.05 kWh LFP battery and a 2.0 L turbo petrol engine that acts as a generator to charge the battery. It can float on water in an emergency.

Where to find the VIN

On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.

China-spec vs export-spec

The U8 and the lengthened U8L are different bodies, so confirm which one you have. Yangwang parts do not cross over to BYD-badged models, and high-voltage and four-motor drivetrain parts are specialised. Charging inlets differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
