Generations & years
First generation 2025–present
Announced for South Africa in November 2024 as the brand's model below the J7. The electric Jaecoo E5 was priced for the UK in August 2025, and the J5 EV reached Australian showrooms in January 2026, with petrol and hybrid versions expected from March 2026.
Powertrain, battery & charging
Electric version: a 61.1 kWh battery with 80 kW DC charging and a WLTP range of 248 miles in the UK. Petrol and hybrid versions are also offered in some markets. Built on Chery's T1X platform, shared with Omoda and Exlantix cars.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
The Jaecoo J5, J5 EV, Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo E5 are versions of the same family, so the badge does not identify the parts, and petrol, hybrid and EV versions have different drivetrains. It is a smaller car than the J7 and not the J6. Charging inlets on the electric version differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
