GWM Shanhai Cannon
China name: 长城山海炮 · Export: GWM Poer Sahar, GWM Cannon Alpha
GWM's most luxurious body-on-frame pickup in the Cannon (Poer) series, launched at the 2022 Guangzhou show. Sold as the GWM Poer Sahar in Thailand, the Cannon Alpha in Australia and New Zealand, and the P500 in South Africa.
Generations & years
First generation 2022–present
Launched on 30 December 2022 at the Guangzhou show on GWM's P71 pickup platform. A Performance version followed in late 2023. The hybrid Poer Sahar HEV debuted at the Bangkok show in March 2024, the Cannon Alpha reached Australia and New Zealand in mid-2024, and the Shanhai Poer Hi4-T plug-in hybrid launched in China on 23 June and in Australia in May of the following year.
Powertrain, battery & charging
3.0 L twin-turbo V6 petrol (260 kW, 500 N·m) with a 9-speed automatic, with a 48 V mild-hybrid version on the Performance edition. Diesel: 2.4 turbo (135 kW, 480 N·m). Hybrid: a 2.0 turbo petrol hybrid (HEV), listed at 351 PS and 615 N·m in Thailand. Hi4-T plug-in hybrid: 2.0 L Miller-cycle engine with a P2 motor and 9HAT gearbox. About 5,440 mm long on a 3,350 mm wheelbase, with a 3.3-tonne towing rating.
Where to find the VIN
On most cars the VIN is visible at the base of the windscreen (driver side) and on a label in the driver-side door opening; check your registration document too.
China-spec vs export-spec
The same pickup is the Shanhai Cannon, Poer Sahar, Cannon Alpha and P500 depending on the market. It is a different truck from the King Kong Cannon and from the older Poer pickups sold in some markets as the GWM Ute or P-Series. V6 petrol, diesel, HEV and PHEV versions have different engines, so confirm the exact version. Charging inlets on the plug-in version differ by market: China-spec cars use the GB/T standard and export versions are built for the destination market. Send the VIN.
